“Over the last 30 years, we have weakened the cornea in conducting corneal refractive surgery with lasers and blades. From now on XENIA will enable us to strengthen the cornea by performing stromal supplementation surgery (…)”

Most laser-based approaches to corneal surgery work by irreversibly removing the patients’ own corneal collagen. In contrast, stromal supplementation surgery preserves the patients’ own cornea and works using additional material that can also be exchanged or removed at a later stage if required.
Beyond Presbyopia surgery, XENIA has already been successfully used in additive keratoplasty procedures with several years of follow-up – dating back to 2019, the year XENIA has obtained its initial Medical Device Approval in the European Union.
The XENIA R&D team continually improves the XENIA implant and its material, exploring new ways to unlock its vast potential for further additive corneal implant solutions.
